We know you all are all angry at his remarks. Please spread this message in large numbers, generate crores of hits.
Show your agony like this. No other way left for us. The Courts, The Law Implementing authorities don't exist in T.N.
Tamil Nadu has a long tradition as can be seen from the glory of the Temples, Literature and History.
Presently, DMK is the ruling Party. EV Ramaswamy Naicker, popularly known as Periyar, is the founding father of the
Party. He opposed Hinduism, and propagated atheism. The ruling party has every right to erect Statues of their Periyar,
wherever they want. It can easily be understood when inscriptions such as: " There is no God - There is no God - There
is no God; There is no God at all; The inventor of God is a fool; The propagator of God is a scoundrel; The worshipper
of God is a barbarian" appear on the edifices erected, understandably explaining the atheistic views of their founder
father. Whether erection of these Statues with these provocative thoughts in front of Hindu Temples and Hindu
Monasteries is in good taste or not, is a point that must be left to their good taste. We do not know of any instances
if such statues with the said inscriptions are erected in front of the places of worship of other Religions. Poor Hindus!
You are known for your tolerance.
Way back in 1953.. Ramaswamy Naicker publicly crushed an Idol of Vinayaka and said that as nothing has happened
to him inspite of breaking the idol - and feels that his view that there is no God stands established. After a
long legal battle, the Supreme Court opined that the image of a Religion is symbolic and nobody should do
anything to offend the sentiments of the believers. We cannot imagine what would happen if anyone was to dare to
insult the Religious symbols or the Holy books of other religions in public.
Good sense should prevail. People can hold on to their views. But, can people holding Public Office, after taking
an oath under the Constitution, publicly hurt the sentiments of any Religious group? We have to leave it to
their good judgment. The recent statements made about Lord Rama have to be viewed in this perspective.
Destroying the Hindu Temples appears to be the Objective of the Tamil Nadu Hindu Religious and Charitable
Endowments Act passed in 1969 by the then DMK Government. Resulting in closure of thousands of Temples,
encroachment of Temple Lands, sale of Jewelry of the Deities, Destruction of Vahanams and Rathams etc.
- though this was not the stated objective of the Legislation. A large number of devotees silently revolted
against this Legislation in Tamil Nadu and all the Political Parties including the DMK had to promise during
Elections in 1989 that they would review the Legislation. Accordingly, the DMK, which was elected to power,
appointed a High-level Committee to suggest reforms to the Temple Legislation of 1969. The High-level committee
submitted its report in August 1989, but the Tamil Nadu Government has put the report in the dustbin.
Strangely, the potency of the bad things in terms of speed and impact is much faster and deeper.
The State of Andhra Pradesh was the first to get inspired and enacted 30/87 legislation, which is
considerably similar to the Tamil Nadu legislation. Karnataka was a bit slow but however, caught up
in the race by 1997. The three geographically adjacent States, with their draconian Legislations on
Temples have created a deep impact and probably would perpetuate further the irreparable damage, if
unchecked.
